INFORMATION LITERACY

In brief, we learnt that an information literacy teaches the ability to recognize when information is needed and to locate, evaluate , and effectively use it. It also involves a step-by step process of identifying an information need, finding sources, critically evaluating their accuracy and credibility, and then using the information ethically to create new knowledge. This skill set is essential for lifelong learning and making information decisions in all aspect of life. We also learnt that information competency is the ability to find, evaluate, use and communicate information effectively and ethically. In addition, it also involves a combination of knowledge, skills, and attitudes that enable individuals to recognise when they need information, locate it effectively, and then analyze, and apply it to solve problems.The competency integrates aspect of critical thinking, library literacy, and technological literacy, and is essential for life learning. Finally, we learnt that information literacy competency standard has five standards and twenty two performance of an individuals. These five standards are as follows: 1. Standard 1 : In this standard Prof. indicated that it is where a crucial skill for an information literate student is the ability to identify and define their information needs accurately before beginning a search. 2. Standard 2 : Here a literate student has a core competent of information literacy, which is the ability to locate and retrieve information using appropriate methods and tools 3. Standard 3 : It was explained that an information literacy person knows how to find information quickly and competently. 4. Standard 4 : On this, we learnt that a key characteristics of an information literacy person is the ability to find the necessary information in a timely and skillful manner. 5. Standard 5 : Here also mentioned that a key aspect of being information literate is understanding the economic, legal, and social issues surrounding information use, and subsequently accessing  and using information responsibly, ethically, and legally.
